The second year of life is an important time for furthering the development of purposeful, intentional behavior, cause effect relationship and ability to solve simple problems, such as how to get one object from inside another. Young children who learn through their actions how to influence environment and cause change to occur will develop the concepts, "I can make something happen. I can make a difference." Therefore a warm, loving, caregiver and responsive environment is presented to promote competency in problem solving.
